The COVID-19 epidemic has affected Taiwan’s tourism which led to a significant reduction in international tourists. The Taitung County Government (台東縣政府) launched the "2021 Cloud Travel Expo" (2021雲端旅遊展), using online methods to promote Taitung’s beautiful scenery and attractions. There are also products online where visitors can shop, hoping to share with Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and other Southeast Asian countries, the unique experience of Taitung’s food, attractions, and destinations. After the epidemic is over, people can go to Taitung for actual physical travel.

Overseas businesses can communicate with Taitung business operators through the live mall and online conferences, and they can also get the latest information on Taitung tourism from the official website. They can download "Travel Taitung" App (旅行台東), and they can even enjoy the leading immersive 360° audio-visual technology to go around Taitung virtually. There are also online hot-air balloon interactive games, and if they pass the challenge, they can participate in the lucky draw.

Taitung County Mayor Jao Ching-ling (台東縣長饒慶鈴) said that Taitung County is the first place in Taiwan to hold a cloud travel expo. There are 20 businesses in the county who joined and hopefully, with overseas promotions, online activities, and live malls, local Taitung businesses can overcome the epidemic restrictions and still have opportunities to reach more buyers. After the epidemic is over and international travel resumes, Taitung County hopes to make Taitung the first choice for international tourists to visit.
