2021 Taipei's Masskara Festival! Mayor Ko Wen-je enjoyed the festive vibes with new immigrants

2021 Taipei's Masskara Festival was held at the Qingguang Shopping District of Taipei City. Mayor of Taipei City - Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) attended the event and interacted with the participants to learn about the cultural diversity of the new immigrants together. At the same time, he visited the toilet beautification project in the Qingguang Commercial District. Mayor Ko called on everyone to make the business district prosperous again.

Masskara Festival is an annual grand event held in Bacolod, Philippines. Participants donned gorgeous costumes and creative smiling masks to convey positive energy.

This year in Taipei, the festival is at Food Street of Qingguang Shopping District, and it started from November 12 to November 28.

When Mayor Ko arrived at Qingguang Market, he put on a blue and white feather mask and took photos with the new immigrants. They visited the stalls along the way and enjoy the festive atmosphere together. The mayor also used the voucher to purchase red bean cakes and have a taste of the food.

New immigrants from the Philippines said that Taipei has become a diverse and friendly city. The festival symbolizes that no matter how hard life is or what challenges you encounter, you still have to move forward. With a smile and collaboration with others, a better future is wished.

In addition, the new immigrants attending the event were not only from the Philippines but also from Vietnam and Indonesia. They donned traditional costumes of their hometowns and joined the grand event together and made their own smile masks to convey positive energy

Qingguang Shopping District of Taipei City is known as the ‘little Philippines’. Due to the pandemic, street activities have been canceled this year. However, many people still participate in the festival enthusiastically.
