With a long history in the United States, the "Sundance Film Festival" has created several avenues for the exchanges of Asian films. Taiwan hosted the event this year for the first time, following Hong Kong and Indonesia. It hosted several talks as well as screenings of a variety of chosen works and competitions for short films.

Hollywood filmmakers from Sundance Film Festival, including Taiwanese directors Justin Lin, Todd Makurath, and producer Dan Lin, visit the country to discuss their filming experiences.

Additionally, nine nominated films from the more than 250 registered Taiwanese short films will be screened as part of the festival from this year's short film competition. The winning film will be eligible to compete for the top honor with and other top productions from across the globe in the United States early the following year.
