Filipino immigrants in Taiwan held charitable event with a public welfare organization to help those in need in their hometown

The super typhoon Rai crashed into the Philippines last year, resulting in at least 400 deaths and hundreds of thousands of homeless people.

An immigrant from the Philippines, Huang Yi De (黃依得), launched a charitable event together with Hand-In-Hand Teen's Service Center (花蓮縣青少年公益組織). The fund-raising event is named “Philippines Typhoon Aid - Crab Boat Handcraft Charity Sale”, and National Immigration Agency (Hualien County Service Center) also attended the event to support Huang Yi De’s heartwarming project.

Huang introduced a fellow sister from the Philippines, Luo Wei Na (蘿威娜), a migrant worker living in Taiwan who has been financially supporting her younger sisters ever since her parents passed away.

Her relatives in the Philippines are facing tremendous stress due to the super typhoon Rai. Therefore, she provided financial assistance to them with half of her salary saved.

At the same time, other immigrants and migrant workers were invited to make more than 20 models of the fishing boat Banca boat that symbolize the Philippines and sell the models to raise funds for people in need in their hometown. It is hoped that everyone can show their kindness by providing a helping hand to those in need.

Besides, the public is also reminded not to bring or import meat products from overseas to prevent invasion of African swine fever as well as prevent oneself from facing a heavy fine.

The director of Hualien County Service Center, Hu Zhao Ren (胡朝仁), stated that it is very touching to see immigrants stand together to help those in need in their own hometown-the Philippines.
