Key Point: Senior driver's license renewal age lowered from 75 to 70.

Age 70 and above: 

  • Must pass a physical examination. 
  • Attend a traffic safety seminar. 
  • License valid until age 75. 

Age 75 and above:

  • Renew license every 3 years 
  • Added cognitive function test 

The cognitive test is divided into 3 main items:

  • Time and Space Awareness: Answer questions about date, location, etc. 
  • Short-term Memory Test: Remember traffic and lifestyle patterns/icons. 
  • Clock Drawing Test: Draw a clock showing a specific time. 

 

If you fail the test, further evaluation is required.

Driving with an expired license:

  • Fine of NT$1,800 to NT$3,600
  • Immediate driving ban on the spot
  • License may be canceled if past the deadline 

 

Driving after license cancellation is treated as driving without a license, with a maximum fine of NT$60,000.
