A new immigrant from Vietnam - Caroline Nguyen is a famous YouTuber living in Taiwan. She has multiple identities as a professional host, a Vietnamese lecturer, and she is the first new immigrant who presided over the National Day of the Republic of China.
Caroline Nguyen made her drama debut and starred in the drama “Travel across the ocean to love you” (飄洋過海來愛你), and she was shortlisted for the 56th Golden Bell Awards – Newcomer with the most potential award. Besides, her movie debut in “Days Before the Millennium” (徘迴年代) also enables her to be nominated in the Busan International Film Festival.
Caroline and her Taiwanese husband John Li created a YouTuber Channel “Hang TV - 越南夯台灣”, sharing their life, cultural differences, and languages to the audience.
Recently, they have become parents, and this is therefore more parenting videos are published on YouTube. A wide variety of video genres are being released in the future.

In this episode of "New Immigrants in Taiwan" column, Caroline Nguyen and the fellow migrant workers set foot on the beach of Ruifang, rolled up their trousers and participated in the beach cleaning activities.

In recent years, the public and society are paying more attention to environmental and marine ecology protection. Many organizations have thus launched beach cleaning activities, inviting everyone to clean up debris and garbage which cause marine pollution.
Caroline volunteered to join the beach cleaning activity because she heard from her friend Asuka (阿蘇卡), a reporter, that she is participating in it. Not only Taiwanese who have made the cleanup effort but new immigrants and foreigners have also made their efforts in protecting the marine environment of Taiwan as well.
On the day, participants cleaned the beach under the scorching sun, picked up driftwood, branches, many fishing buoys, PET bottles and other cans. Then they rested under a simple plastic shelter.
Although there might be language barriers, they still helped each other, and this strengthened the bonds among the group. Once they finished cleaning up, it gives them a sense of achievement.

Through this activity, Caroline discovered that no matter which country one comes from, one’s love for Taiwan is universal. Most importantly, there have always been people who contributed quietly to the cleanup effort without recognition.
Rome wasn't built in a day, and the same applies to the result of beach cleaning too.
With this activity, it is known that there are efforts made by new immigrants and migrant workers to clean up the beach. The efforts might be trivial but this is one of the ways to show one’s love for Taiwan.
