At the end of February 2023, Cambodia has verified two new cases of H5N1 bird flu, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The second level of alert for the new type A flu travel epidemic has been raised in Cambodia based on the potential for environmental exposure. Although there is currently no sustained human-to-human transmission capability, the virus has been consistently found in poultry, so it is advised that people avoid contact with birds.

The country of Southeast Asia saw its first human bird flu incidence in nine years on February 22 when an 11-year-old girl passed away. Later on, her father's infection was also verified, despite the fact that he had very minor symptoms and that 11 additional contacts had negative tests. The CDC informed the public on Wednesday that Taiwan upped its travel warning from a recommendation to an alert on February 24 as a consequence of the increasing environmental risk.

A balanced diet, regular exercise, and thorough hand washing with soap are all recommended by the CDC. Poultry and eggs should also be fully cooked. Flu vaccines should be administered to those who have spent a lot of time with chickens. Please put on a mask right once if symptoms start to appear. Seek medical assistance; avoid touching or feeding migrating birds; purchasing chicken from unidentified sources; consuming raw eggs or poultry products; and mixing poultry reared for human consumption with other animals.

When arriving in Taiwan from a country where there is an epidemic, if you have a fever or flu-like symptoms, you should take the initiative to alert the airline staff, quarantine officials at the airport and port, wear a mask, and seek medical treatment as soon as you can, also let the doctor know about your previous travel contacts. Please visit the Centers for Disease Control website for pertinent information or contact them by phone toll-free epidemic prevention hotline 1922 (or 0800-001922) for inquiries.
