Many foreign students from Southeast Asia were unable to return to their hometowns for about two years due to the COVID-19 outbreak. To give them comfort, the Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology recently held a Southeast Asian Food Festival, inviting Southeast Asian students to cook their hometown food by themselves and introduce special dishes to others.
According to the National Education Radio, the Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology invited students from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and other countries to make their hometown food together and show their superb cooking skills. Filipino students prepared fried sweet potatoes by using chestnut sweet potatoes which have a high sweet level and topping them with syrup.

Each country has different customs, and thus there is a variety of local dishes in Southeast Asian countries. For example, Pad Thai from Thailand, Telur Balado from Indonesia, Asam Pedas from Malaysia, and spring rolls from Vietnam. Foreign students felt satisfied when they had a taste of their hometown food and welcomed the new year together with others.
