The "International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination" was recently observed by the Yorkshire Police Department in Ontario, Canada. To promote Taiwan's distinctive regional goods and traditional culture, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Toronto was invited to take part and put up a booth there. In addition to booths from Taiwan, the festival featured more than 60 exhibitors from various cultural backgrounds.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Toronto invited professional cultural teachers to introduce traditional culture, such as puppetry dolls and paper lanterns, as well as displayed Taiwan featured magazines on the day of the event. Small gifts made in Taiwan, such as Taiwanese pineapple cakes, Apple Sidra, animal lanterns, and national flag T-shirts, were also given out to the audience. People were drawn to the exhibition because of the Formosa black bear mascot (黑皮).

According to the head (陳錦玲) of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Toronto, in addition to promotion and education, it is also vital to implement everyday life via action to eradicate the notion of racial prejudice; Taiwan places a high priority on this subject. It produced the first national report for the "International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination" in December of last year, marking a new turning point in Taiwan's advancement of human rights.
