The Mirror Media’s series of reports of “Direct selling Vietnamese brides” accuses on 3rd December in 2019 that illegal match-making agencies operate the Vietnamese marriage media through similar direct marketing and online live streaming. The National Immigration Agency (NIA) says the law prohibits anyone from receiving payments from transnational marriage media and disseminating advertisements.
Many people recently reflect that that they saw someone on the Internet who was soliciting transnational marriage media, attached with some pictures of beautiful women and contacted those who published them and was suspected as a fraud. However, they later found that the quality of service was not good, and there was a huge deviation from what they expected. After an in-depth tracing with full pieces of evidence, the National Immigration Agency had made the punishment. According to the statistics, 61 cases of illegal transnational marriage matchmaking were punished in 108 years, of which 57 cases were for individuals receiving payments and publishing advertisements. If people find that someone is engaged in international marriage matchmaking without permission, they can report to the Specialized Operation Corps of the National Immigration Agency.
The NIA explains that there is an increasing number that people use social media, live streaming, Facebook, or LINE…etc.; however, the government so far prohibits transnational marriage media from asking payment from the public or publishing advertisements. Hence, it also calls on the public not to use the keywords such as Vietnam bride or mainland bride to search for transnational marriage media website or Facebook page, etc. The casual approach in private matchmaking is not advised to avoid some disputes that cannot be solved.
The NIA also reminds that if anyone is looking for transnational marriage media, they can turn to the website of the NIA to browse related information about legal transnational marriage media groups. Also, it reminds people that transnational marriage involves foreign services, and the process of matchmaking is cumbersome; hence, there are 5 points that are advised for people to keep in mind to protect their own rights: remember to sign a written contract with matchmakers, ask for payment receipts, ask and compare legal marriage media groups to choose the best service for yourself, get to know each other’s family background and culture, and communicate properly to strengthen each other’s support to make their marriages happier.
