Turkish entertainer Rifat (吳鳳), a new immigrant, recently traveled to Europe with his family while also visiting family in Turkey. Once, when they prepared to board a flight from Turkey to Vienna, the capital of Austria, they were halted by customs and nearly prevented from doing so. Rifat was able to see the practicality of Taiwan passports as a result of this experience.

According to Rifat (吳鳳), passengers with Turkish passports need a visa or an Austrian resident permit to board. When Rifat pulled out his Taiwanese passport at this point, the customs officials let him through and informed him that Taiwanese citizens do not require a visa to enter Austria.

Taiwan is ranked 31st in the world in the most recent "passport index" for the third quarter of 2023, which was published by Henley & Partners Holdings Ltd. Taiwanese passport holders do not need to get a visa in order to visit 144 tourist locations.
