To let the second generation of new immigrants learn about Yilan’s local culture through literature, the Yilan County Cultural Affairs Bureau (宜蘭縣文化局) organized a "Walk, Read, Write, in Our Hometown" (走.讀.寫,在我們的家鄉) activity. Young writers used creative teaching lectures to lead and guide the second generation of new immigrant children to write characters and actually experience Luo Tung Forestry Culture Garden (羅東林場), Chuang Wei Sand Dunes (壯圍沙丘), Yilan City, and other places, to improve the literary ability of new immigrants' children, by linking their life stories into literature, and cultivate their ability to face the future.

The Yilan County Government (宜蘭縣政府) stated that this project is a collaboration between the New Immigrants Development Fund (新住民發展基金) and the Cultural Affairs Bureau, to inspire and enhance the cultural potential of the second generation of new immigrants through creative and literary education, cultivate and accumulate the energy for future creation, and experience Yilan’s development and characteristics through a cultural perspective.

Through creative teaching such as essay writing and poetry creation, the second generation of new immigrants will learn to love literature and master the expression of words. They will understand that words are interesting and can be used as a natural way of expressing their personal ideas to identify and connect with the world in times of difficulties.

In addition, the second generation of new immigrants who participated in this event came from the United States, Canada, South Africa, Vietnam, and other countries. Yilan County Government hopes to bring literary creation to the world of new immigrants, and let the children know Yilan, and at the same time remind them of their parents’ culture whether it is about food, life, values etc. Through sharing and guidance, they can discover multicultural values and find their own unique journey in life.
