Non-reserved seating is now subject to a new rule from Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSR). Non-reserved seating will no longer be limited to cars 10–12 as of September 1. On the tickets, "Non-Reserved Cars 10-12" will be replaced with "Non-Reserved Cars Only."

The THSR noted that Non-Reserved Cars are no longer restricted to car 10, 11, and 12 because each cars planned Non-Reserved Cars ranging from 2 to 8 sections. In order to fully utilize the capacity of the existing 34 sets of trains and take into consideration the needs of passengers, THSR will continue to assess in the future in accordance with the real travel requirements and circumstances of passengers, and then update the number of Non-Reserved Cars.
The THSR advises passengers who wish to take non-reserved seats to check the "Passenger Information Display System" installed in the ticket hall, above the ticket gate, in the waiting area inside the gate, and on the platform in order to see the non-reserved seats of the newest train after arriving at the station. The Taiwan High Speed Rail App and official website both allow passengers to view the quantity and location of non-reserved seats for each car.
