To promote multiculturalism of new residents, the Labor Affairs Department of New Taipei City Government has conducted up to 160 "Migrant Workers Multicultural Drama Campus Tour" for 7 consecutive years and handled the community tours in 2017. This year, Six Arts Theatre and If Kids Theater were commissioned again and made 45 tours that nearly ten thousand teachers and community people participated and learned how to respect multi-cultures of migrant workers.
The school version of "Fantastic Four" based on popular movies, and it symbolizes that multiculturalism brings more vitality and cultural elements to Taiwan. The community version is divided into two dramas: "Aladdin and His Four Fantastic Nations" and "Galaxy Commandos" that have a full house in 10 libraries tour. In "Aladdin and His Four Fantastic Nations", famous fairy tale characters looking for partners presents the multiple values of co-existence; Also, in "Galaxy Commandos", the two children resist the invading aliens, convened their good friends from the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, and finally defend their homeland. The serious publicity turns out to be lively performances that make audiences convey their appreciation to the staff, "Thank you for bringing us such wonderful meaningful performances".
Many parents state that migrant workers and new residents are everywhere in our lives. Through theatrical performances, children can learn about the identity of these migrant workers and new residents, as well as the cultures of different countries. It can also allow parents to understand the laws and regulations that migrant workers are not allowed to work outside the permit. Besides, since the performances are both entertaining and educational, parents and children can learn how to embrace and respect the culture of migrant workers. It is hoped that the activity can be expanded to let more people see how great it is.
