Chengzhou Elementary School, Wugu District, New Taipei City recently held a Chinese language course for new immigrants. The school prepared cooked glutinous rice balls with garland chrysanthemum to share with the foreign students and the Rotary International (RI) that supports this project. The new immigrants were amazed with the colorful dish and said, “This shows how friendly Taiwanese are”.

The Director of New Taipei City Education Bureau, Zhang Ming Wen (張明文), said that there are more than 110,000 new immigrants in New Taipei City. As the country's largest international city, the city government is committed to promoting various welfare services for new immigrants.
At the same time, to provide a better living environment for migrant workers, new immigrants and their children, a policy that aims to “Live happily, Work happily and Learn happily” was introduced. Besides, the “New Immigrants’ Chinese Language Learning Support Project” was promoted as well with the development of teaching material, teacher training, and curriculum promotion.

In addition, Wang Zhong Ping (汪忠平), President of the Banqiao RI, pointed out that since November 2020, the city government has started developing Chinese language teaching materials for new immigrants, and organizing teaching materials promotion workshops for teachers to understand how to use them effectively. In 2021, 15 schools will be subsidized to open 25 Chinese language classes for new immigrants, so that they can learn with peace of mind.
