Keelung City Government’s "New Residents Theater Troupe" Promotes Multiculturalism and the Safety of Women and Children

The Keelung City Government International Family Service Center of the Social Affairs Bureau (基隆市政府社會處國際家庭服務中心) established the "New Residents Propaganda Troupe" (新住民宣導劇團) in April, which used theatrical presentation in the communities and campuses to promote and invite Lin Ching-Chun (林敬群), the head of the Women and Children Protection Brigade of Keelung City Police Bureau (基隆市警察局婦幼警察隊組長) and volunteers to participate in the troupe’s rehearsal. Recently, the first training of the group members was conducted at the Women and Children Welfare Service Center in Anle District (安樂區婦幼福利服務中心). Sharing their promotional experience online, the multicultural differences of the new immigrants were interpreted using drama, to convey the message about the safety of women and children and to enhance the safety knowledge of the public.

The members of the "New Residents Propaganda Troupe" are mostly new immigrant mothers. With gentle and kind smiles, they use physical movements to let more Taiwanese and hometown sisters know the issues about the safety of women and children. In addition to protecting themselves, they can also protect their own children from harm. The dramas they performed touched people's hearts, and conveyed knowledge about women and children, to jointly build Keelung into a safe and peaceful place for living and working.

In addition, the Women and Children Protection Brigade of Keelung City Police Bureau

also used cute stuffed toys as an anti-drug teaching tool, to remind all members about the dangers of drugs and to pay attention to their children’s activities and relations outside their homes. Everyone is reminded not to accept food and drinks from unknown sources to protect children from the dangers of drugs.
