Weekly News (June 7 – June 13)

  • The NIA visits public shopping areas where migrant workers often gather

To prevent the outbreak of the virus, the NIA staff visited areas where migrant workers gather and distributed multilingual brochures (多國語言疫情資訊) with information regarding epidemic prevention safety and control (安心採檢防疫專案). This is to remind them to reduce gathering and unnecessary outings. The NIA makes use of public channels to help in controlling the epidemic.   • The ASEAN Plaza in Taichung will be closed temporarily

After the implementation of the National Level 3 Alert, there was a surge in confirmed cases among visitors of the ASEAN Plaza. Taichung City Government immediately announced that businesses in the plaza will be closed until June 14 (currently extended until June 28). The mayor of Taichung city also expressed thanks to business owners for cooperating with epidemic prevention measures. (Detailed report: Asean Plaza in Taichung is closed until June 8)

  • An AI robot supports migrant workers through epidemic prevention measures in multiple languages.

The epidemic situation in Taiwan continues to rise. There are around 700,000 migrant workers in the country, it is clear how important their role is in fighting the epidemic. To provide them with clear information, the non-profit organization One-Forty, invested in an AI robot that broadcasts daily news and information in four languages (Filipino, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Thai.)   • New immigrants have a chance to win awards in the "New Immigrants New World- Little Online Tour Guide" competition

The IFI Network (新住民培力資訊網) organized the "New Immigrants New World- Little Online Tour Guide" (新住民創作比賽) competition where new immigrants can share their native culture through articles and videos. Through this event, local Taiwanese can learn more about the culture of new immigrants. The first-place winner can receive a 32-inch LCD screen!
