Immigration Agency Helps Divorced Foreign Spouse to Stay in Taiwan

Although getting the custody of her three minor children after divorcing with her Taiwanese husband Mr. Song, foreign spouse Vietnamese Ms. Chen lost the right to stay in Taiwan because of not extending the resident permit. Last year, Mr. song suddenly passed away, their three minor children were left with no one to take care of. Ms. Chen flied back to Taiwan, but had no choice but to follow the rule by staying in Taiwan for a really short time and had to leave again. After noticing their difficulties, Immigration Agency reached out to them, helping Ms. Chen get her Taiwan resident visa in order to stay in Taiwan for her kids.

Chen’s oldest son and daughter said that they have economic difficulties and need to rent a house since their father doesn’t leave any legacy. They don’t have income either, so they all need to depend on their mom’s old time saving and some financial subsidies from the charity. It is almost impossible to pay for any other flight ticket for mother to get back to Vietnam and come back to Taiwan again. Thanks to the help from Immigrant Agency, they can stay with their mother now without the economic pressure.

Manager of the Changhua immigration service team, LIN HONG ZHI, suggested that all the foreign spouse with a resident visa before, if they have the obligation for their children, they can apply for a long-term resident visa from Immigration Agency after being permitted to enter by Ministry of Foreign Affair. Moreover, the limitation for the spouse from Mainland China to stay in Taiwan has been extended since 2019 Oct 8th. If there is any new resident who need this kind of help, please don’t hesitate to contact Immigration Agency for help.
