News in Focus (August 9 – August 15)

  • Foreign students can now apply over the counter at the National Immigration Agency

The National Immigration Agency adjusted its regulations in accordance with the downgraded nationwide level 2 alert. The NIA is now open for foreigners to process their applications. Foreigners in Taiwan can visit all service stations in Taiwan.   • The nationwide epidemic alert is adjusted, kindergartens start to open

During the epidemic, parents spent most of their time taking care of their families while working simultaneously. In spite of the epidemic slowly improving, many kindergarten schools and daycare centers are opening. However, if these schools and daycare centers do not have proper air ventilation, they will remain closed.   • Migrant workers can now register for vaccines

Migrant workers can now apply for the vaccine through the online vaccine registration and booking system. The Ministry of Labor reminds the public that vaccination is not mandatory. Therefore, employers and intermediaries must not force migrant workers to get vaccinated.   • Migrant workers can take online Chinese courses at home

The Department of Labor, Taipei City Government provides online Chinese language learning courses for migrant workers.
