To prevent invasion of the “African swine fever” and protect Taiwan’s livestock industry, the mobile service unit of the National Immigration Agency (Taoyuan City Service Center) traveled to Taoyuan County Daxi Township Household Registration Office and shared the importance of “Prevention of African Swine Fever” to immigrants and their family members.

Besides, NIA Taoyuan City Service Center also collaborates with members of Taoyuan City Southeast Asia Arts and Culture Education Innovation and Research Association (桃園市東南亞藝文教育創新暨研究協會), inviting food stalls selling Southeast Asian cuisines at Taoyuan Railway Rear Station to prevent African swine fever (ASF) from entering Taiwan together.

A Lan (阿蘭), who runs a Thai food restaurant, said that the store uses qualified Taiwanese pork. She also mentioned that she told her friends and customers not to buy pork from a questionable place of origin on the Internet and asked her relatives and friends not to send meat to Taiwan.

As the ASF outbreak is still going strong globally, NIA appeals to immigrants and migrant workers to remind each other not to violate laws by importing or purchasing meat products from overseas to Taiwan. Individuals can contact the “Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, COA, Executive Yuan” directly if they happened to receive packages containing pork products from an unknown origin.

In addition, please do not throw meat products in the trash can if you receive such parcels from the unknown place of origin.

NIA emphasized that the people bringing pork products from ASF-infected zones will be fined up to 1 million New Taiwan dollars. If the individuals are unable to pay, they will be refused to enter Taiwan. If the individuals violate the regulations by sending or purchasing pork products from abroad to Taiwan, one can be sentenced to a maximum of 7-year imprisonment and a fine of 3 million New Taiwan dollars.

Huang Ying Gui (黃英貴), the Director of Taoyuan City Service Center, calls on everyone to share the messages of “Prevention of African Swine Fever” and stand together to protect Taiwan’s livestock industry.
