To expand the post-pandemic New Southbound tourism market, the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism launched promotional campaigns in Bangkok, Thailand, and Manila, the Philippines, in September. By showcasing local delicacies such as "xiao long bao" and landmarks like "Taipei 101," the campaign highlights Taipei's diverse offerings. Activities include large outdoor advertisements and mobile promotions using local transportation modes such as tuk-tuks and jeepneys to attract more tourists.
According to the Department of Information and Tourism, Taipei was ranked as the 2nd best city in Asia for nightlife in the 2024 global rankings by the UK's Time Out magazine, while the U.S. magazine Travel + Leisure named Taipei the most affordable city in Asia. To continue promoting the New Southbound market, Taipei has placed advertisements in bustling commercial districts such as "Rama IV Road" and the "Siam Business District" in Bangkok, emphasizing Taipei's iconic cuisine and night views to capture the attention of Thai citizens. These areas are known for high traffic and dense populations, effectively reaching local office workers and students.Taipei's cuisine and scenic spots are featured in downtown Bangkok, attracting the attention of Thai citizens. In addition, Taipei has also launched advertisements in Manila's "Sampaloc District" and the high-end "Bonifacio High Street" shopping area, using Taipei's famous cuisine and attractions to draw the attention of Filipino tourists. The Department stated that the campaign aims to appeal to local youth and high-end consumers.
To enhance promotional effectiveness, the department will utilize 100 tuk-tuks in Bangkok and jeepneys in Manila, which will be branded with Taipei tourism advertisements and roam through both cities' downtown areas to further promote Taipei and the 2025 World Masters Games in Taipei and New Taipei City.
