On August 19, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the six new cases, one is domestic and the other five are imported. The CECC reported five deaths today.

Regarding the domestic case (Case #16006), the case is a Taiwanese male in his 50s. The Taiwanese man accompanied his family member to the hospital on August 18, and he was tested for COVID-19 the same day because he accompanied a patient. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 19 (the CT value was 22.7).
Regarding the five deaths announced today, they were three men and two women between 60 and 89 years old. They passed away between August 13 and August 17.More information: Businesses are reopening: Labor groups are asking for higher wages
Regarding the five new imported cases, they are four men and one woman, aged between 20 to 59 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from the United States, Lithuania, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), and Iran. They arrived between August 6 and August 17.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,429,464 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,411,951. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,897 cases. Of the 15,897 confirmed cases, 1,356 are imported; 14,488 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 826 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 826 deaths, 818 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
