Since the announcement that the epidemic alert was reduced to Level 2 on July 27, the National Immigration Agency Second Service Station of Taichung City (移民署中區事務大隊臺中市第二服務站) has continuously received calls from manpower agencies and migrant workers inquiring about over the counter applications. In June, the National Immigration Agency (NIA, 移民署) suspended residency extension services for new immigrants and foreigners. After the epidemic alert was lowered to level 2, the public may now go to the service stations of the NIA to process their residency extensions. If their residency is expired, they should prepare to leave the country!

On the first day of the new epidemic level 2 alert, A-hao, a Vietnamese migrant worker, and his friend came to the counter of the second service station in Taichung City to apply for an extension of their stay. The volunteer interpreters and service staff saw that they were having a hard time due to the language barrier. The volunteers assisted them in filling out the relevant application documents and informed them of important reminders and processed the extension. A-hao said: "We feel relieved that our application was successfully completed, and we are very grateful to the NIA!"

With all expectations, the epidemic alert was finally downgraded to level 2, but it is still necessary to pay attention to personal hygiene and epidemic prevention measures. Wang Ji (王驥), director of the second service station of Taichung, said that starting July 27, in cooperation with the lowering of the epidemic alert, foreigners and migrant workers may apply for extension of stay and should bring the required documents to the service station before August 6. Foreigners who are applying for residency permit extensions or changes for the first time after their entry to Taiwan should go to the service station to process their applications before August 25. Foreigners who do not meet the application requirements, must go directly to the airport before August 6 to leave the country.
