According to UK’s Cleverly discusses trade on Manila visit | The Star, maritime security, commerce, and the environment were discussed at a meeting between UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, according to the two countries.

The Foreign Secretary James Cleverly also went to the Philippine Coast Guard, which, together with the military, has charged China of violating international law in a series of increasing disputes in the disputed South China Sea.

In a statement, he claimed that his visit was in order to learn more about the efforts being made to respect the UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) and safeguard the environment.

In the second such incident this month, Chinese coast guard warships last week pursued and momentarily obstructed Philippine boats that were on a resupply mission to a remote garrison on Second Thomas Shoal in the Spratly Islands.

According to UK’s Cleverly discusses trade on Manila visit | The Star, the Philippines and other like-minded nations in this area were to be long-term partners of Britain, cleverly said.

Enrique Manalo, the foreign minister of the Philippines, told reporters that Cleverly's visit signifies a deepening of our bilateral connections in areas like commerce, investment, security, and marine cooperation.
