In an era where digital technology is rapidly advancing, mobile phones have become the primary tool for recording life. However, for children born after 2000, the world of photography might only exist as small icons in their phone albums. Traditional photography, therefore, appears more unique and enchanting. To let families experience the process and charm of photography, the National Center for Photography and Culture launched the "Time Machine - Pinhole Camera Parent-Child Workshop" during the summer of 2024, inviting pinhole camera expert Guan Yihua to lead everyone on a wonderful journey of making handmade pinhole cameras.

Parent-Child Creation: Crafting Exclusive Pinhole Cameras

Guan Yihua, who has over 20 years of experience in pinhole camera creation, can transform anything from matchboxes to wooden boxes into creative pinhole cameras. In recent years, he has devoted himself to promoting pinhole photography art, traveling with his pinhole cameras to various places. In this workshop, Guan Yihua will guide parents and children to discover the mysteries of pinhole cameras, experiencing the fun of shooting and darkroom development through hands-on activities. Every participant will be able to take home their handmade pinhole camera and the photos they developed, leaving a beautiful summer memory.Guan Yihua Teaches Parents and Children to Make Simple Pinhole Cameras by Hand (Image / Sourced from Ministry of Culture Website)

Learning Through Play: Mastering Basic Photography Knowledge

The "Time Machine" parent-child workshop will allow families to learn basic photography knowledge and skills in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Through simple materials and optical principles, participants will be able to capture moments of light and shadow in the pinhole camera, enhancing children's sensitivity and creativity towards visual arts through on-site shooting and darkroom development.

This summer, bring your children to the National Center for Photography and Culture to join this educational and entertaining parent-child workshop. Explore the wonderful world of photography, experience the fun of making cameras, and create unforgettable family memories.
