On August 22, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced 10 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the 10 new cases, six are domestic and the other four are imported. The CECC reported no deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the six domestic cases (of whom, two tested positive while they were in home isolation or completed the isolation period), three are male and the other three are female, aged between under 5 to 99 years old. One of the cases began to suffer the onset of symptoms on August 21, 2021, while the remaining five didn't experience symptoms. Regarding those domestic cases, three cases were reported in Taipei City, and one case each in New Taipei City, Taoyuan City and Yunlin County.

Regarding the four new imported cases, they are two men and two women, aged between 30 to 59 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from Japan (Case #16028), Germany (Case #16029), South Africa (Case #16030), and India (Case #16026). They arrived between August 8 and August 20.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,489,074 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,471,769. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,926 cases. Of the 15,926 confirmed cases, 1,371 are imported; 14,502 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 828 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 828 deaths, 820 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
