【Taiwan Immigrants' Global News Network】According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Taiwan to provide 150,000 Medigen COVID-19 vaccine to Somaliland as part of its efforts to protecting the health of people in the Horn of Africa area and fighting against coronavirus worldwide.
During a signing ceremony, Wu Chen-chi (吳鎮祺), the head of the Taiwan Representative Office in Somaliland, and Hassan Mohamed Ali Gafadhi, minister of health development, formalized the provision of the doses developed by Hsinchu County-based Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corp.
As the omicron variant spreads across Africa, the number of COVID-19 cases is on the rise. The donation comes after Somaliland's health officials recently decided to issue emergency use authorisation for the Medigen vaccine, according to the ministry.
The government is willing and able to collaborate with allies and like-minded partners in boosting the concerted efforts to the pandemic, according to the MOFA, in keeping with the spirit of Health for All and Taiwan Can Help.

According to the ministry, Taiwan and Somaliland have a close friendship and have worked together for many years in mutually beneficial areas that serve the people. Projects spanning education, health care, and maritime security have been highlights since the establishment of separate representative offices in 2020, according to the MOFA.
