In order to enhance the professionalism of the new residents in the tourism industry, the Labor Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government has organized three classes “New Residents Tourist accommodation Industry Practice Training” this year. The first class “New Residents Tourist Accommodation Industry Talent Training” has started recently, and the response was enthusiastic.
New residents are faced with many obstacles such as language barrier, lack of skills in the workplace and relevant information when seeking employment. Due to the lack of fluency in Mandarin and Taiwanese languages, accent problems, poor literacy skills and insufficient social participation, it is impossible to meet the employment requirements and vocational training information.
Director Wu pointed out that the Labor Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government will open three practical trainings class “Tourist accommodation Industry Practice Training” for new residents this year, and invites tourist accommodation entrepreneurs to let new residents understand the actual situation of the workplace and all the employment requirements, promote the rights of new residents to use their mother tongue and become tourism support staffs.
After the training, new residents can be assisted as interpreters who assist international tour guides in international activities organized by travel agencies or government agencies.
Xiao Cai (小彩), who came from Myanmar and has lived in Taiwan for 16 years, is currently working in a restaurant. She always wants to work as a tour guide. She hopes to change her work path to become the main job after joining this class.
Xin Xin (心心), a Thai new resident, is currently a lecturer of Thai language and Thai culture. She also works as a part-time volunteer at National Museum of Natural Science. She wants to learn the practical knowledge and skills of Tourist accommodation Industry and hopes to become a professional tour guide.
The Labor Affairs Bureau pointed out that the second class “New Resident Vietnamese Tour Guide Training” and the third class “New Resident Indonesian Tour Guide Training” will be open in August and September.
