On September 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the six new cases, four are domestic and the other two are imported. The CECC reported one death today.

Regarding the four new domestic cases, they are three men and one woman, aged between 30 and 59 years old. Of those domestic cases, two each were reported in Taipei City and New Taipei City.

Regarding the two new imported cases, they are an Egyptian male in his 30s (Case #16169) and an Egyptian man in his 40s ((Case #16170). They traveled to Taiwan from Egypt on August 4. They were tested for COVID-19 after arrival and before the end of their quarantine period, and the results were all negative. As they came into contact with a confirmed case, the health authority then arranged for them to be tested on September 7. The results all came back negative. They were tested again today, and infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the cases on September 9 (the CT value of Case #16169 was 36.7, and Case #16170's CT value was 34.7).

Regarding the one death (Case #16162) announced today, the case was an over 70-year-old male with chronic disease.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,911,463 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,894,136. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 16,062 cases. Of the 16,062 confirmed cases, 1,447 are imported; 14,561 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 3 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 838 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 838 deaths, 828 are from domestic cases and the other 10 are from imported cases.
