According to [Focus Taiwan], elementary and secondary schools in Taiwan will start the new school year on Sept. 1, two days later than scheduled, to allow time for the implementation of COVID-19 prevention measures, the National Federation of Teachers Unions (NFTU) said Thursday.
Proper disinfection will be important during the two day period, as some school campuses will be used as polling stations for Taiwan's national referendums on Aug. 28, NFTU Deputy Secretary-General Chang Chiung-fang (張瓊方) said.

With the summer break due to start July 3, students in the K-12 system will have a full 60-day vacation, he said, noting that the original start date for the new school year was Aug. 30.
