New Immigrant Children in New Taipei City: 383 Scholarships Awardees

There are around 300,000 new immigrant children in New Taipei City and the city also has the highest number of people in low-income households. The New Residents Children's Education Website proposed scholarships for outstanding new immigrant children in middle-income households. Awardees can receive NTD8,000, NTD5,000, and NTD3,000 for vocational schools, junior high schools, and elementary schools respectively. Since physical classes are suspended, the amount will be remitted to families.

Lin I-hsiu (林羿秀) is a student from Datong Elementary School whose mother is Vietnamese. Her mother is a market vendor in the evening. Lin I-hsiu has been a model student in her class for the past 10 years. She also helps her mother at work while she does her homework.

Chang Chia-chen (張家禎), from Mingde High School (明德高中), also a scholarship awardee won first place in their experimental forensics class. She also excels in arts and practical subjects. Her mother, also a Vietnamese immigrant, hopes that she can be a role model for women in the future.

Director of New Taipei City Education Bureau Chang Ming-wen (張明文) believes that new immigrant children have advantages in their language skills. Not only do these 383 students have outstanding academic performance, but they are also good leaders and do great in other aspects.

The New Taipei City Government will continue to support new immigrant children through training courses and cultivating programs.
