According to FOCUS TAIWAN, an increase in electricity rates, which is imposed annually in summer in Taiwan to discourage high consumption, will take effect on June 1, with a potential maximum increase of 27 percent, the state-run Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower).
The higher summer rates, introduced in 1989, will be in effect June 1 to Sept. 30 this year (2021) and will be calculated for each household or company based on their consumption, Taipower said.

This year (2021), the summer hike will range from 0-27 percent, compared with the standard rates in the period from October to May, Taipower said.

FOCUS TAIWAN mentions, under the summer rate system, the average household is expected to pay NT$506 (US$18.1) more per month for electricity this year, based on higher rates and a monthly power consumption of 434 kilowatt hours (kWh), the company said.
