Taiwan joins hands with the Philippines to promote agricultural cooperation and agricultural trade opportunities

The Council of Agriculture of Taiwan (COA, 臺灣農委會) and the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines (菲律賓農業部) recently held the "10th Taiwan-Philippines Agricultural and Fisheries Cooperation Conference" (第10屆臺菲農漁業合作會議) and the "Agricultural Machinery Industry Exchange Forum" (農機產業交流論壇) to discuss issues concerning agricultural trade and agricultural technology cooperation between the two countries and seek Taiwanese agricultural machinery business opportunities for export to the Philippines. Good results came out of the discussion on issues like improving the entry into the agricultural products market, industrial technology cooperation and other important issues. The understanding of Taiwan’s agricultural machinery will promote Taiwan's agricultural machinery products to be exported to the Philippines.

The Philippines thanked the Taiwan representatives for sharing their experience in the prevention and control of the African swine flu and hopes to cooperate with Taiwan in the development of their livestock industry and agricultural technology innovation in the future. The Philippines also emphasized that they borrowed and used Taiwan’s experience to promote to their young famers the importance of the cultivation of the pig industry. The Philippines is also grateful to Taiwan for assisting the Philippines in the establishment of the "Mushroom Demonstration Farm" (洋菇示範農場) in Baguio for the past three years. In the future, the demonstration sites will be expanded to meet the country's mushroom consumption demand and increase the income of small farmers.

Taiwan and the Philippines have long cooperated closely in agricultural technology and agricultural trade. The "10th Taiwan-Philippines Agriculture and Fisheries Cooperation Conference" and the "Agricultural Machinery Industry Exchange Forum" were successfully held under the severe conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic and still achieved fruitful results. The agricultural departments of the two countries will promote various cooperation plans based on the consensus of the meeting and continue to deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation and agricultural trade relations.
