When people mention traveling to Greece, they often think of its islands. However, those who overlook the mainland are missing out on hidden gems like Costa Navarino. This luxury development in the Messinia region, about three hours from Athens, features four resorts, including the first Mandarin Oriental in Greece, along with golf courses, dining, spas, and shopping. Once known for Kalamata olives and ancient temples, the southwest Peloponnese is becoming a global tourist destination.

Founded by Vassilis Constantakopoulos in the 1980s, Costa Navarino was built with sustainability in mind. During its construction, 7,000 olive trees were relocated and replanted, reflecting the project's eco-conscious ethos. Visitors from the UK, Germany, and France are increasingly drawn to this pristine area, favoring it over more crowded destinations like Ibiza and the Algarve.ankarb/iStockphoto/Getty Images

The region offers a mix of luxury and history, with unspoiled beaches, ancient ruins, and charming villages like Pylos. Guests can explore iconic spots like Voidokilia Beach, considered one of Greece's best snorkeling destinations, or hike to Kalamaris Waterfall for a refreshing swim. Costa Navarino also offers proximity to the quiet Sapienza Island, accessible by boat, for a more secluded experience than the popular Greek islands.
