YouBike Co., Ltd said that between May 17 in the evening and May 21 in the early morning, several hacking methods were used to assault the YouBike system. Hackers in Taiwan gained access to 40,593 member accounts, and they took the member's electronic ticket card number and ride history. YouBike Co., Ltd alerted the appropriate government agencies, updated the member passwords that had been maliciously entered, and texted members to let them know. In this respect, the 11 counties and cities in Taiwan that work with YouBike organized a team and urged YouBike Co., Ltd to submit a compensation and improvement plan by May 26. They are also continuing to monitor if the event has spread.
YouBike Co., Ltd also reminds the public that the company does not provide membership recharge, membership upgrades, annual unlimited rides, or other programs. The company also does NOT call members to confirm member information and riding records, nor does it ask members to send money to confirm their identity. Please don't send the money if the member is in arrears; instead, pay at the car machine, car column, or service facility. Do not access the website link, participate with the operation of the account, ATM, mobile phone buttons, etc., if you receive an unknown call, email, or text message asking you to transfer money.
