On August 20, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced nine new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the nine new cases, six are domestic and the other three are imported. The CECC reported one death today.

The CECC pointed out that of the six domestic cases (of whom, two tested positive while they were in home isolation or completed the isolation period), four are male and the other two are female, aged between under 5 to 69 years old. Three of the cases began to suffer the onset of symptoms on August 18, 2021, while the remaining three didn't experience symptoms. Of those domestic cases, three cases were reported in New Taipei City, two in Taipei City, and one in Changhua County.
Regarding the one death (Case #15492) announced today, the case was an over 60-year-old male with chronic disease and history of contact with other confirmed cases.

Regarding the three new imported cases, they are two men and one woman, aged between 20 to 49 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from Romania (Case#16011), Bangladesh (Case #16012) and the UK (Case #16013). They arrived between August 6 and August 17.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,450,350 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,433,271. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,906 cases. Of the 15,906 confirmed cases, 1,359 are imported; 14,494 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 827 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 827 deaths, 819 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
