It has been the third year of COVID-19 epidemic, many foreign students studying in Taiwan for university have been unable to return home. Da Yeh University in Changhua County organized an activity of New Year’s Shopping Street before the Lunar New Year so that foreign students are able to experience Taiwanese New Year culture.

In the activity of New Year’s Shopping Street, a total of six stalls were set up. The favorite one for foreign students is "sugarcoated fruit stick DIY". First, tomatoes and grapes are strung into colorful fruit sticks, then dipped in syrup, and then chilled for a minute, the delicious and beautiful sugarcoated fruit stick is completed.

According to Chen, Jun-Fu(陳俊福), deputy director of the International Language Center, through the activity, foreign students are able to experience the customs and culture of celebrating the New Year in Taiwan. At the first stall, students must first say New Year greetings in Chinese, and the teacher will give them red envelopes, which contains 100 NTD tokens, and then use the tokens to experience the activities of other stalls.

The foreign students at the school are from Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Mongolia and other countries. In addition to studying for professions, the school also teaches Chinese. The Chinese Language Teaching Center also arranges cultural exchange activities for students to experience the local customs and enhance their understanding of Taiwan.
