A new record: Taiwan issued 1,399 Employment Gold Cards in 2020

According to  All Hands, “The Taiwan Employment Gold Card (中華民國就業金卡) is part of the Act for the Recruitment of Foreign Professionals, which was implemented in February 2018.

And in 2020, Taiwan issued 1,399 Employment Gold Cards in total. The government has already issued 500 Employment Gold Cards in 2021, hoping to reach a new high this year. 

According to statistics from the National Development Council, Taiwan Employment Gold Card was first implemented in February 2018, and had 188 applicants. And in 2019, the applicants reached to 358 people. And then in 2020, the applicants reached a new high, 1,399 people applied for the Taiwan Employment Gold Card. And there is already 502 applicants in the beginning of 2021.

According to Taiwan News, Among last year’s recipients, Americans accounted for the lion’s share with 933. More than 800 of the applicants hailed from backgrounds in economics and science and technology,  Liberty Times  quoted Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫), minister of NDC, as saying.

Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong also received a Taiwan's Employment Gold Card from the Taiwanese government this year (2021).

Taiwan News mentions, Famed Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong (黃秋生), who became a cardholder after his application was approved last month, has joined foreign residents who enjoy tax incentives and National Health Insurance among other benefits. He believes it was the recognition he earned in the Hong Kong Film Awards that allowed him to successfully acquire the ID in just two months, wrote CTS.
