On August 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced eight new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the eight new cases, four are domestic and the other four are imported. The CECC reported four deaths today.

The CECC pointed out that of the four domestic cases (of whom, one tested positive when he was in home isolation or completed his isolation period), they all are men, aged between 30 to 59 years old. They began to suffer the onset of symptoms between August 7 and August 8, 2021. Regarding those domestic cases, Taipei City reported the most cases at 2, followed by New Taipei City and Kaohsiung City with 1 case each.

Regarding the four deaths announced today, they were three men and one woman between 40 and 89 years old.

Regarding the four new imported cases, they are three men and one woman, aged between 20 to 49 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from Malaysia (Cases #15893-15895) and the United States (Cases #15898), and arrived between August 6 and August 7.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,221,156 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,204,067. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,790 cases. Of the 15,790 confirmed cases, 1,294 are imported; 14,43 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 108 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 813 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 813 deaths, 805 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases
