The biggest amount of NT$9.28 billion on Chinese credit cards was spent in Taiwan, according to research by the National Credit Card Center of R.O.C. This, it is believed, is a result of mainland spouses using credit cards to make purchases or Taiwanese businesspeople spending money in Taiwan.
With the exception of Chinese credit cards, the three countries with the most purchasing power in Taiwan at the moment are the United States, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with the majority of purchases made at hotels, department shops, and eateries.
The National Credit Card Center of R.O.C. revealed through big data analysis that there has been an upsurge in the amount of purchases done in Taiwan using international credit cards. In comparison to the same period in 2019, there were 10.66 million more purchases in the first half of 2023, totaling over 13 million. In terms of consumption, the quantity consumed in the first half of 2023 was nearly NT$46.77 billion, which has roughly recovered to 80% of the pre-epidemic level.
