The Tainan City Government had a briefing on the "baby bonus", a bonus amount of money given to families of newborn children. Tainan City mayor Huang Wei-che 黃偉哲 announced that the bonus will be effective starting January 1, 2022. The firstborn child bonus has increased to NTD10,000 from NTD6,000. NTD12,000 will be provided for the second child and NTD30,000 for the third or fourth child, lastly, NTD50,000 will be provided for the fifth child, and so on. This "baby bonus" was proposed in hopes of encouraging citizens willing to give birth to keep their household registration in Tainan City.

Mayor Huang stated that the efforts to improve social welfare under a limited government financial budget can be seen from the declining birthrate across Taiwan. In fact, increasing the "baby bonus" has no significant effect on increasing birth rates, but it may convince families to stay instead of relocating to other counties and cities. Aside from childbirth incentives, Tainan City also provides childcare, and education to reduce the burden on young couples planning to have a family.

Furthermore, Tainan City mayor Huang also pointed out that the declining birth rate is an issue evident across Taiwan. Social welfare is absolutely best executed by the central government, but local government initiatives such as the "baby bonus" may also assist in retaining household registration.

The government continues to work hard to provide social welfare and childcare welfare and to increase the average birthrate in Taiwan.
