The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines has repeatedly hit new record highs. Officials of the World Health Organization (世界衛生組) have confirmed that there is community transmission of the Delta variant in the Philippines. To help the Philippines fight the epidemic, Taiwan donated 200 oxygen concentrators to the Philippines and handed them to the Philippine government through the Taiwan representative office in the Philippines.

Rabindra Abeyasinghe (阿貝亞辛格), the representative of the World Health Organization in the Philippines (世衛(WHO)駐菲代表), said that according to the confirmed cases reported by the Philippine government recently, the Philippines now has community transmission of the Delta variant. In addition, the number of new cases of COVID-19 is increasing and this trend is likely to continue. "The number of people infected with COVID-19 will continue to increase in the future."

Taiwan’s representative office in the Philippines (台灣駐菲代表處) recently issued a press release. As the Philippine COVID-19 pandemic is still severe, Taiwan donated 200 oxygen concentrators to the Philippines to assist hospitals in treating infected patients. Gilberto Lauengco (留文克), the representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office in Taiwan (駐台馬尼拉經濟文化辦事處), attended the donation ceremony of the oxygen concentrators and pointed out that Taiwan and the Philippines have close relations and have friendly interactions between the people of both countries, and he thanked Taiwan for extending a helping hand again. In addition, Taiwan and the Philippines continue to strengthen cooperation in economy and trade, investment, agriculture, health, education, science and technology, tourism, and other fields, to improve the relations between the two countries and enhance the well-being of the people.
