On August 24, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced six new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the six new cases, one is domestic and the other five are imported. The CECC reported one death today.

Regarding the domestic case (Case #16044), the case is a Taiwanese male in his 70s.
Regarding the one death announced today, the case (Case #15877) was an over 80-year-old female with chronical disease and history of contact with other confirmed cases.

Regarding the five new imported cases, they all are men aged between 10 to 49 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from Japan (three cases), India, and Turkey. They arrived between August 12 and August 22.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,524,269 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,507,456. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,938 cases. Of the 15,938 confirmed cases, 1,378 are imported; 14,507 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 829 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 829 deaths, 821 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
