Since President Tsai Ing-Wen started ruling for the past three years, the government has improved the rights of new residents in terms of work, education training, and the cultivation of new resident children. Department of Women's Affairs of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) invited a legislator-at-large nominee, Luo Meiling and four new residents from Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and the Philippines to jointly hold a press conference.
Lin Yani, who is from Indonesia and serves as a nursing assistant, states that new residents' rights have become more and more guaranteed in terms of employment and social welfare that they can not only apply for a bonus of new resident certificates but take the exam of R.O.C Technician Certificate. Also, for new residents who already have a foreign license, they can apply for fewer examination subjects or processes to make professional license examinations easier.
Yang Hui, who is from Vietnam and serves as a tourist guide, states that she was engaged in agriculture for planting grapes. Since the New Southbound Policy encouraged Southeast Asian tourists to come to Taiwan, she has also got the chance to be a tourist guide to introduce Taiwan's democracy and beauty, and her income has also increased. She shares that it was difficult in the past for new residents to pass the General Tour Guide License Test because they are foreigners and they couldn’t understand Chinese words. However, the government has now reduced the number of exam questions so that it is now easier to pass the exam.
Luo Meiling, a legislator-at-large nominee, indicates that she is a Malaysian Chinese and was born in Malaysia and has served as a legislator in Nantou County Council member since 2014. As a new resident, she has paid long-term attention to new resident issues and even promotes Nantou County to set up an affairs section for new residents during her term of office. She hopes that the new residents of Nantou County would have a one-stop service at the Nantou County Government.
Luo Meiling also mentions that apart from the establishment of the Department of Women's Affairs of Democratic Progressive Party, new residents have also deeply felt the various policies showing the government's care and love for them.
