Sheng Hsien Elementary School (聖賢國小), Yuan Kuan-yu (袁冠宇), who won the Presidential Education Award (總統教育獎), was raised by the old village chief Lin Ching-fu (林清福). Because Yuan’s parents divorced when he was a baby, his mother was unable to support him. Yuan was fostered at Lin Ching-fu’s house even before he was a month old. The village chief and his wife raised him as their grandson. Yuan also knows how to be grateful, and often takes the initiative to help with farming and housework. When the village head was involved in a car accident two years ago, Yuan helped take care of his grandfather. People were moved by his affection.

The old village chief Lin Ching-fu said that Yuan’s mother is a new immigrant from Cambodia. Yuan’s parents divorced after he was born. Because Yuan’s mother could not take the child with her to work, Yuan was fostered at the village chief’s home. Later, Mama Yuan set up another family, so Yuan continued to live at chief Lin’s house. He was not only caring but also responsible. Aside from his academic performance that was never a problem, he usually helped with farm chores like spraying pesticides, picking fruits, weeding grass etc., When chief Lin had a car accident more than two years ago and had difficulty with movement, Yuan was there to take care of him.

Although Yuan's parents were not with him, he grew up in a family full of love and warmth, and his heart is naturally full of gratitude. Yuan said that he is very grateful to Grandpa Lin, Grandma, and Uncle who raised him. When he grows up, he wants to stay in his hometown and become a "rural youth". He hopes that when he succeeds and make money in the future, he wants to give back to society, like extending a helping hand to some child in need, just like how grandpa, grandma, and uncle took care of him.
