Elizabeth Francis, affectionately known as the "Queen Elizabeth of Houston," passed away this week at 115 years old, making her the oldest person in the U.S. at the time. Born in 1909, Francis experienced historical moments like two world wars, the civil rights movement, and saw 20 U.S. presidents. Raised by her aunt after her mother’s death, she became a single mother and community caregiver. Francis spent much of her life serving others, working at her church and a local TV station’s coffee shop for over 20 years. Her deep faith was her guiding force, with her favorite Bible verse, 1 John 4:8, reflecting her life’s mission of love and compassion.

Elizabeth's remarkable longevity, often attributed to her faith and abstinence from alcohol and smoking, was something she humbly credited to God. Surrounded by three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, she lived a life filled with love and family. Her loved ones are preparing to honor her legacy with a joyous celebration at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston. "It’s going to be a happy celebration," said her granddaughter Ethel Harrison, reflecting the love and joy Elizabeth brought to everyone who knew her.
