A 12-year-old girl surnamed Wu experienced repeated headaches and vomiting for a month. Recently, she also developed an unsteady gait and blurred vision. After medical evaluation, doctors discovered a 3&ndash4 cm tumor in the posterior cranial fossa, compressing the brainstem and causing hydrocephalus. The medical team performed emergency surgery to remove the tumor and diagnosed it as medulloblastoma. She is now undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and her condition is stable.

Three Major Symptoms of Increased Intracranial Pressure

Dr. Chen You-Ning of National Cheng Kung University Hospital noted that brain tumors can lead to increased intracranial pressure, causing symptoms such as headache, vomiting, blurry vision, and unstable gait. Without timely treatment, it may result in permanent neurological damage or even sudden death. Parents must stay alert and avoid misjudging symptoms as mere gastrointestinal issues, which could delay proper care.Don&rsquot assume a child&rsquos vomiting is just a stomach bug &mdash it could be a sign of brain abnormalities! Timely Treatment Is Key

Elevated intracranial pressure can result from tumors, hydrocephalus, or infections, and often requires neurosurgical intervention to relieve the pressure. In recent years, advancements in neuroendoscopy and minimally invasive techniques have improved surgical safety. Dr. Chen emphasized that while surgery involves risks, early diagnosis and treatment&mdashbased on thorough discussions with the medical team&mdashoffer the best hope for recovery.
