On August 26, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced eight new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Of the eight new cases, two are domestic and the other six are imported. The CECC reported two deaths today.

Regarding the two domestic cases, Case #16055 is a Vietnamese male in his 30s who came into contact with a confirmed case (Case #16006). The Vietnamese man developed a sore throat, an itchy throat, and a headache on August 25. The health authority then arranged for him to seek medical attention and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 26. Case #16056 is a Taiwanese female in her 20s who came into contact with a confirmed case (Case #15969). She was tested for COVID-19 before the end of her isolation period on August 25. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on August 26.

Regarding the two deaths announced today, they were an over 70-year-old male and an over 80-year-old male. Both had chronic diseases.

Regarding the six new imported cases, they are three men and three women, aged between 10 to 59 years old. They arrived in Taiwan from Japan (two cases), the US (three cases), and China. They arrived between August 2 and August 24.

The CECC reported that a total of 2,573,538 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 2,556,336. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 15,947 cases. Of the 15,947 confirmed cases, 1,385 are imported; 14,509 are domestic; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; 14 cases' sources of infection are being investigated, and a cumulative total of 110 cases have been removed from the list of confirmed cases. There have been a cumulative total of 832 COVID-19 deaths since 2020; of the 832 deaths, 824 are from domestic cases and the other 8 are from imported cases.
