 According to Premier (陳建仁), reducing the teacher-to-student ratio in preschool classrooms to one instructor for every twelve children will boost academic performance. 15 pupils per instructor is the current ratio. In addition to providing subsidies to commercial and quasi-private preschools working toward achieving a 12:1 ratio, the government is rewarding institutions that currently have one with financial rewards.

Public preschools will have to start making efforts in August to reach this reduced percentage, according to the Education Ministry. If the cost of tuition increases as a result of employing more teachers, the government claims it will offer greater subsidies to parents.

The Taiwanese government has been advocating programs over the past several years to lessen the cost of raising children, including more cheap childcare facilities and parent subsidies. The regulations are intended to encourage more individuals to have children because Taiwan has one of the lowest birth rates in the whole globe. The government anticipates that this will lessen the difficulties associated with having an aging society in the future.
