According to The Straits Times, passengers on Singapore Airlines (SIA) can look forward to traveling on a new fleet of aircraft with brand-new interior ideas once air transport resumes following the Covid-19 pandemic.

SIA is still waiting for the delivery of the 31 Boeing 777-9 planes it ordered to replace its older-generation big widebody planes.

Mr Ng Yung Han, the airline's vice-president of product innovation, briefed the media on some of the new cabin features that passenger may expect from February 13.

He was speaking from the cockpit of a Boeing 777-9 flight-test plane, which will make its Asian premiere at the Singapore Airshow 2022, where it will perform an aerial demonstration.

The Boeing 777-9 has a seating capacity of roughly 400 passengers and a range of nearly 14,000 kilometers, depending on configuration.

Mr Ng said that SIA bought the first batch of the planes in 2017 and began exploring cabin concepts in 2018, based on passenger input.

"The pandemic has provided us with extra opportunity to rethink and reaffirm some of our previous ideas. More meetings with our customers, Boeing, our designers, and our seat makers have taken place "Added he. "As a result, the design is sturdier and more thoughtful."

In comparison to the current fleet, the design includes a "quantum leap" in first class. It will be larger and contain various suite-like characteristics, making it more exclusive and private, according to Ng.
